About Us
A Community Restaurant
As long-time residents of Jamestown Township, we built The Derby Tavern to be Hudsonville’s gathering place — a neighborhood restaurant where everyone feels at home. Whether you’re planning an upscale business lunch, a celebratory family dinner, or a casual Happy Hour with friends, The Derby Tavern is here for you!
We offer ice-cold draft pours, a curated wine list, craft cocktails, and an extensive bourbon selection — all paired with in-house smoked meats, hand-cut steaks, fresh salads, and tavern favorites (with many gluten free options) made from scratch. Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere.
We’re proud to source our Michigan Craft Beef from Moraine Park Farms in Zeeland — just seven miles down the road. Pasture-raised, hormone-free, and finished on a unique blend of natural grains, it’s the kind of local, farm-to-table quality you can actually taste.
Dining gluten-free? You’re in good hands. We run a dedicated gluten-free pizza oven, and there’re numerous GF options throughout our menu — from starters and burgers to steaks, salads, and cocktails. Just ask your server; there’s almost always a GF path to whatever you’re craving.
The Derby Story
On May 3, 2008, some mutual friends of ours hosted a Kentucky Derby party, where Tracie and Andy first met. They grew up only one town apart, but had never crossed paths up until that day. As a matter of fact, Tracie had just moved back to Michigan from Texas only a couple of months earlier. It was just one of those chance encounters that changes your life forever. From that moment on, The Derby has always held a special place in their hearts.
Enough with the love story. What we like most about The Derby is the upbeat excitement that surrounds it and also the eclectic mix of people it brings together. People from all different backgrounds, gathering to have a good time. Come with friends and make new ones as well. That is what the Kentucky Derby is all about and we want to bring a piece of that to The Derby Tavern.
Halfway Between Grand Rapids and Holland — Right Off I-196
Heading west on Chicago Drive or coming off the Hudsonville exit on I-196? You’re minutes from one of the best dinner stops in the west Michigan corridor. The Derby Tavern sits right in the heart of the Grand Rapids-to-Holland route — close enough for a quick lunch, worth planning your drive around for dinner.
